I just love trying to get a photo of a northern flicker taking off, the under wings are yellow. Two were poking the ground and looking around the other day. Then as they got closer they would do a head bob then a back and forth head sway. Then would look up toward the pines. One was more aggressive than the other. Their actions indicated the flicker mating dance but because both were female I think it was a mix of a territorial warning and maybe showing off for a male, maybe in the pines? Nope! Not in the pines! I spotted him!
